Many overseas Chinese citizens got into trouble when they returned to China to research on issues of their concerns. One such case is Uighur historian, Tohti Tunyaz. He was a postgraduate student in Japan and he visited the XUAR in the northwest of China to do research for his thesis. He was arrested and sentenced to prison for 11 years.
