Starting in 2007, the power to approve death sentences will return to the Supreme Court in China. China’s annual total number of executions is already higher than the rest of the world combined. It’s hard to tell whether the change in policy would lower the amount of executions since small crimes such as tax fraud or drug trafficking are worthy of death sentences.
