In late May of this year, two professors from Macalester College, a private liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota got arrested in China while visiting the Three Gorges Dam. Their experience was recently published in the student newspaper. Before they were allowed to leave the police station, they had to sign a statement to promise to behave as they claimed as tourists.

The massive displacement of residents around the area hasn’t gotten adequate attention. The size of the project is definitely the main focus of all and the Chinese authorities are quick to cover any noise like they did with the Macalester professors.
