Amnesty International issued a UA today for the children of Rebiya Kadeer. The action briefly described the possible connection between her sons’ sentences with her successful election to become the president of the World Uyghur Congress on November 26th. While the trial of the two men were held on October 27th, the sentences were delayed until November 27th. This is rather unusual because the Chinese courts are always quick to pass a verdict and impose sentences.

Sources from the capital of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region informed Kadeer that the Chinese authorities would take it easy on her sons if she would not run for president of the WUC. It is another proof that the Chinese authorities harass dissidents in China and overseas at all costs.
